LGC

The Laboratoire de Génie Chimique (LGC) at the University of Liege (ULg) works on the experimental study, modelling and design of new generation biological and (bio)chemical reactors and separation devices. A specific experimental methodology was developed to observe and model the very complex hydrodynamics encountered in multiphase processes. It is based on a fine metrology that enables the analysis of the local flow structure and their space and temporal distribution. The LGC has thus developed a complex experimental infrastructure (visualisation techniques based on X-ray tomography, electric tomography, planar laser methods, trajectography etc.) which can be applied to the study of the hydrodynamics of a large variety of unit operations met in chemical, petrochemical, agrofood, pharmaceutical etc. industries.  The information provided by these advanced experimental tools, along with the strong expertise of our team in chemical reaction engineering, make it possible to identify and to master the main operating parameters governing the “scaling-up” of a process.
